MAYES COUNTY, Okla. - Police say a man smashed out 17 car windows at a used car dealership in Mayes County, for no reason at all. Now a business owner is out a lot of money.

Our FOX23 crew spent time in Chouteau where the strange events took place.

Police first learned of some strange activity going on at the EZ Mart but it turns out this car lot across the highway is where crimes took place.

Police told FOX23 a man named Jose Landeros is the suspect who smashed out 17 car windows at a used car dealership.

Officers said Landeros parked his car and then walked through the car lot, bashing in the windows, leaving a blood trail all the way across the lot over to the EZ mart.

"I was shocked that he had not passed out from so much blood loss.

We could actually tell where he crossed the highway, went to EZ mart and went south from there," Chouteau police Officer Chad Nave told FOX23.

The strange events continued from there.

Police tell FOX23 the man opened the door of a parked car at the store and took a lunch box from inside.

“"he actually he opened the door, walked to the back of EZ Mart and dumped the contents out and then returned the lunch box to the vehicle and left from there," said Nave.

Landeros was walking along the roadway when police caught up to him and arrested him.

“He advised he had been in a fight, but his wounds were not consistent with somebody that had been in a fight and he also had glass inside of his cuts and his pockets," said Nave.

You can still see blood on the damaged vehicles.

The business owner did not want to go on camera but told FOX23 he will have to pay thousands of dollars out of his own pocket for the repairs.

Chouteau residents are shocked saying this is a pointless crime.

"I think it's crazy. This guy is out a lot of money and they need to do something about it," said Chouteau resident Garry Kilgore.

"It's pretty sad. He shouldn't have to pay for all that just because some person's crazy enough to do all that," Jacob Helmuth said.

Landeros was arraigned today and charged with malicious injury to property, larceny and possession of drugs.

The car lot owner told us this is upsetting.

So far police are estimating the damages to be more than $5,000.
