Jim Pierce decided he did not want to weigh 230 pounds anymore.

At 6-feet tall and 44-years-old, Jim joined a local run club.

“I was searching through my photos and I found a picture of me that my wife took that I didn’t realize she took and I was like oh my gosh put the whale back in the ocean!” said Pierce.

He knew he wanted a lifestyle change after his wife Lora’s mother died last year of heart disease at 66-years old.

“Just through the years of having kids and living life, my weight crept up; I had normal aches and pains and decided to make a change,” said Piece.  “I never would have considered myself a runner.”

Since joining the Life Time Fitness Run Club in April, he has lost 50 pounds.

“It’s hard to say you are proud of yourself, but I am thrilled! I have lost 50 pounds I am probably in better shape even from high school.”

“He is my 19-year-old boyfriend again pretty much!” said his wife, Lora.

“I have facial hair now, and wrinkles!” responded Pierce to his wife.

“I love the wrinkles!” she said.  “I gave him most of those wrinkles and gray hair!”

The two have been married for 25 years and have two children in their twenties.

Lora has also been running but not training to run the marathon.  She has been running 5ks all year and has lost 70 pounds.

“I feel about 20 years younger because we have two sons and I can outrun them!” said Lora.  “When I sprint to the finish line after running for four miles it rocks.  It really does.”

She wants her children to live long healthy lives like Jim and her hope to do.

“That’s what we decided to do with out lives, be an inspiration to be healthy,” said Lora.

“I ran 20 miles two Saturdays ago and a year ago I would have told you you’re crazy if you said I was going to run 20 miles,” said Pierce.  “It took me about four hours and I felt great and was ready for more.”

He plans to run the Route 66 Marathon on Sunday in four hours.  Lora ran the 5k on Saturday and proudly told FOX23 she ran it in 36 minutes and eight seconds.
