TULSA, Okla. - Crews have been working to repair a water line break at 41st and South Louisville Avenue in front of Patrick Henry Elementary School.

It was an early start to the day for Tulsa school employees, putting provisions in place so the school could hold classes without water.

Employees first brought in water for the toilets; they also worked to set up hand-washing stations and brought in bottled water.

Tulsa Public Schools’ maintenance manager said they're ready for these types of situations.

“It's just standard operating procedure. We just know what to do, everybody knows their job and we just get in gear and get it done,” said Connie Pounds.

As city crews worked to repair the water line lunch was made without water, the principal said the students adjusted well.

"And so the kids are pretty excited obviously having their own personal water bottle here, we're having a normal day here at Patrick Henry," said Jene Carpenter.

Students used the hand-washing stations. Extra staff members brought in by the district helped keep the bathrooms running smoothly.

“Everyone just pitched in to help out,” said Carpenter.

She said she had very few parents upset school was in session.

“Obviously that is their decision if they want to send their child or not and that's a decision for them to make, but overall it's been mostly positive," she said.

Carpenter said they hope to have water restored for school Tuesday, but they're ready if they don't.

And the crews said they will keep at it until their work is done.
