A fun Christmas gathering ended with a 10-year-old boy in the hospital after he was hit by a car. It happened after 3 p.m. near 15th Street and 117th East Avenue. Family members tell FOX23 at one moment they were laughing and having a good time, now they're praying for the condition of their family member.

The street was jam packed with not with only family members' cars but also EMSA fire crews and police. They all surrounded the accident scene after the boy was hit by a SUV then dragged several feet underneath it.

"He was out in front of his house then he ran in the middle of the street and then got struck by the vehicle behind me," said a witness.

Officers say they were surprised how well the 10-year-old handled the situation.

"He handled it real well with his leg, we're not really sure of the injuries with his leg," said the witness.

Family members say the injuries look serious.

"He had that much of a foot from his ankle to the bottom. He had a big hole about that much all the way, and he could barely move his fingers he had cuts on his fingers," said the family member.

It's a sad situation on any day but especially on a Christmas holiday.

"Especially on Christmas you would rather have them playing with toys instead of going to the hospital," said a family member.
