Country singer and long-time Tulsa resident Ronnie Dunn is making sure hard-working first responders in Green Country know they're appreciated.

He was known for being one-half of the group Brooks and Dunn.

Dunn and his brother-in-law, Armando Mata, decided to feed lunch to police officers and firefighters in Jenks.
Mata owns the Ron Hamburgers and Chili there.

"A simple thank you that's all most policemen, firefighters and medics want. We’re not asking for hero status, a simple thank you is all we want," Jenks Police Officer Paul Rinkel.

But he says he was grateful to see the act of kindness. 11 years ago, terrorism hit America in a way many had never seen before. Rinkel remembers where he was when it happened.

"I was working dayshift at the police department,” he said.

The 28 year veteran officer told FOX23 first responders lives are always on the line. That is one of the reasons Dunn and Mata wanted to show them a little appreciation.

"We have a lady officer here whose husband was killed in the line of duty,” Mata told FOX23. “We should never forget the fallen. “I posted earlier we should always remember the fallen and give back to those who's serving."

Regardless of what day of the year it is, that's a message they want everyone to remember.

"We never know what's going to happen,” Rinkel told FOX23. “We never know how serious that it can get. We should be glad for the people we have available to respond to these situations."

"When people start to forget that means we're not doing our job patriotically," said Mata.

Dunn is calling this event, "I love this country" campaign.  He hopes it will become an annual event.

I'm thankful for all the people who do good things for people who serve others, your grandson included, keep up the good work. I'm also thankful for RD using his fame for something worthy!!! I am so tired of people who are famous for no reason at all, being glorified for their sex tapes. YUK!!!! Your grandson can have someone to look up to for the right reasons and that's good. Fame has a price, one I wouldn't want to pay, but RD has a gift for writing songs and expressing thoughts that many people can't find the words to say. giving back just makes him more human and humble, and that is always a good thing :)

It is a great thing that RD and the Mata's did. It started with a single comment about buying a police officers lunch on 911 and in less than 24 hours turned into buying the entire police and fire departments lunch. Great job to everyone involved! Kim

Molly, you shouldn't be hating! What your grandson did was wonderful and he is being raised well, but I personally am grateful to someone who is famous doing something for the people who serve all of us, was in the military myself. I would rather hear about Ronnie Dunn feeding the first responders than him going into rehab or all the stupid stuff half of hollywood is doing and calling it news. Don't be bitter, be grateful...good things come to those who wait and what goes around comes around.

When my grandson raised puppies and sold them so he'd have enough money to buy a vehicle when he became 16 yrs old, he always spent the cost of one puppy to feed fireman. Never saw that in the papers. Guess you have to be rich and famous.
