Thanks to quick thinking by her 9-year-old daughter, a mother lived to tell police what happened after being attacked in her home.
It happened in the 5000 Block of North Utica Place, Monday evening. Police say a woman and her daughter returned home to an ambush. The woman told police 33-year-old, Alan Shields attacked her with pepper spray before, brutalizing and threatening to kill her and in front of her daughter.
The woman’s daughter ran into the bathroom and dialed 911, while at the same time, hearing her mother’s scream in the other room. Police arrived before either of them was seriously injured. Upon further investigation, officers found a gas mask, handcuffs and a semiautomatic handgun.
Authorities said Shields had been hiding inside the home for hours. He was arrested and faces multiple charges. However, he bonded out of jail Tuesday morning. Now, a warrant has been issued to re-arrest him.
