A 5-year-old boy is recovering from surgery and a teenager is accused of body slamming the child to the ground.

It happened in Collinsville on Sunday night at a local park. Now, the child is healing from a broken arm, while his parents are seeking charges against the teen.

Little Aiden came to Collinsville Park to play with his brother. He was throwing a plastic toy when police say that toy hit a 14-year-old boy. That’s when the teen decided to get revenge.

“My son and he were throwing this toy around and it hit this kid in the head on accident, and the kid picked him up and body slammed him on the ground,"says Aiden's father Chris Blunt.

“I guess that's the Humerus, broke it completely off and now they have three big screws going in his arm, and you know it's hard to deal with to watch your kid go into surgery. It's not easy at all. It's really not,” says Blunt.

Collinsville Police are investigating what happened at the park. FOX23 spoke with Captain Daniel Boggs. He’s a father and says he understands the family’s pain.

"It tears me up. It's a sad situation. This is an extreme case. The Collinsville Park has been a safe place for kids to go play for years,” says Captain Boggs.

Aiden is currently recovering from his surgery at the Children’s Hospital at Saint Francis.  His family says because of his injuries, he won’t have the summer he was hoping for.

“He's a normal kid. He likes to fish, and play sports and baseball. But summer's over for him now. No more swimming and going to the lake,” says Blunt.

Collinsville Police say the teenager could face possible charges of assault or aggravated assault.

Where did the 14 yr child learn that kind of behavior? Maybe he has been watching too much wrestling on TV (that stuff is all fake) Or here is a concept maybe he learned this kind of behavior from his parents. the turd doesn't fall far from the a $ $ hole

Yea arrest him, throw him in with the big boys, see what happens. He might get to be the victim of body slammming or...uh,other more demeaning activity.Learn a life lesson. If he gets mad for such small things as this he's gonna have a real hard time where he's going.Naw,I betcha he'd be really well behaved in there.

With that kinda temper this teen has a rough row to hoe. He'll either find someone who will clean his clock or snap on someone and end up 21 in prison doing life without parole.People talk about anger management but it is funny how they can control it when they think they might get their butt kicked.Just another excuse.

it doesnt matter where the parents were they could have been sitting right there it takes nothing but a second u turn ur head and that kid could have charged after him and boom its done and over with ur kids hurt and now as a parent ur freaking out so i dont want to hear that the point of this is there was no need for it and as a 14yr old he should have known better and if he is already having these kind of issues getting mad because u got hit with a toy by a 5yr old whether it was on purpose or accident he needs to learn to control his anger and i feel not only should this teen be charged but for his parents letting him act like this which im sure he is angry all the time has temper tantrums they should be reliable for the cost of this innocent babys hospital bills. As a parent all I can think about is my own child if someone 14yr old did that to my son i woulcd be highly upset no matter the situation like i said a 14yr old knows better there is no excuse for it point blank period!

Where were the 5 year old child's parents during this altercation? I hate that this little boy was hurt and the older boy i'm sure will be accountable. But it is not sub for parent's watching their kids and keeping them safe.

I grew up in this town my entire life. They'd better hope the police handle this before the townspeople do!

Didn't this article say Captain Boggs was the father of the teen? Or did I read it wrong? Whoever the kid is, his parents should get therapy for him before he loses control and kills the next kid.

This teen needs to face serious charges as an adult. It is time our teenagers learn there are real consequences for their bad behaviors. Much of today's violence could have been curbed if parents, police and courts would stop being so soft on kids.
