A 5-year-old boy is recovering from surgery and a teenager is accused of body slamming the child to the ground.
It happened in Collinsville on Sunday night at a local park. Now, the child is healing from a broken arm, while his parents are seeking charges against the teen.
Little Aiden came to Collinsville Park to play with his brother. He was throwing a plastic toy when police say that toy hit a 14-year-old boy. That’s when the teen decided to get revenge.
“My son and he were throwing this toy around and it hit this kid in the head on accident, and the kid picked him up and body slammed him on the ground,"says Aiden's father Chris Blunt.
“I guess that's the Humerus, broke it completely off and now they have three big screws going in his arm, and you know it's hard to deal with to watch your kid go into surgery. It's not easy at all. It's really not,” says Blunt.
Collinsville Police are investigating what happened at the park. FOX23 spoke with Captain Daniel Boggs. He’s a father and says he understands the family’s pain.
"It tears me up. It's a sad situation. This is an extreme case. The Collinsville Park has been a safe place for kids to go play for years,” says Captain Boggs.
Aiden is currently recovering from his surgery at the Children’s Hospital at Saint Francis. His family says because of his injuries, he won’t have the summer he was hoping for.
“He's a normal kid. He likes to fish, and play sports and baseball. But summer's over for him now. No more swimming and going to the lake,” says Blunt.
Collinsville Police say the teenager could face possible charges of assault or aggravated assault.
