Control was lost years ago. The end result was dozens of dogs rescued, but afraid for their lives, they've never been away from their owners. Clearly, that's what caused the problem.
The couple started with two dogs, that was five years ago. Many were not spayed or neutered, and 41 dogs later the couple had a house full. The owners were on a first name basis with each of them.
“As he brought each one out, he told us a little bit about that dog and their personalities," said Robin Pressnall, with Small Paws Rescue.
The owner chose to stay away from the camera, but not the phone: he got in touch with Pressnall, and admitted his wife had a problem: animal hoarding. Despite having a house full of dogs, he felt he had to wait to put a stop to it.
Recently, his wife fell ill, she had a stroke. In and out of the hospital, the man decided the burden was too big, so he made a phone call.
"It was a sad day, he was teary eyed, but he knew this was the best thing for his dogs," said Pressnall.
It took Pressnall staff two hours to round up the pack of dogs. She says the couple is now free from blame.
“Tulsa County, in the country, there is no law about how many pets you can have at your house,” said Pressnall.
In the end, each of these dogs will likely find a happy home. But their former home isn't completely clear of dogs, two were left behind. But they won't be reproducing robin's crew fixed that problem.
In about two weeks those dogs will be cleared for adoption. By then, they will have received their shots and evaluations.
