20-Year-Old Shot Protecting Mom

One man is in the hospital recovering, after police say he was shot trying to defend his mom during an argument.

It happened at the Westminster Apartments near 48th and Memorial Dr. around 8 on Wednesdaynight.  Police say a woman who lived at the complex walked up to a man who was standing outside and confronted him about something. It lead to the two yelling at each other.

Police say that's when the woman's son stepped in and five or six of the man's friends also came to help him.  They say it didn't turn violent, until one of the men in the group left and came back with a gun. Police say he aimed directly at the 20-year-old and shot him at least twice.

When police got to the apartments, everyone involved in the fight was gone. The woman drove her son to the hospital and the group of men, including the shooter, all got into vehicles and left.

The 20-year-old went into surgery as soon as he got to the hospital and is expected to survive.

Police say no crime was committed until shots were fired, so only the man responsible for pulling the trigger will face charges.
