(Tuesday, April 14, 2009 5:00 pm by Kaci Christian, FOX23.com, Tulsa OK) – It seems like it’s happening every day: another day, another meth lab bust. Today, it’s two, in midtown Tulsa, and officers make eight arrests. This is happening at the Melrose Apartments in the 6300-block of East 9th Street, near 11th and Sheridan. Deputies arrested seven men, including a convicted sex offender, and one young woman who is pregnant. Tonight we have an update to breaking news we first brought you on FOX 23 News at Noon. Kaci Christian is reporting live in midtown with new information.
“Just minutes ago, cleanup crews pulled away,” reports FOX 23’s Kaci Christian. “Deputies have been here all day, leaving only to respond to a dumped meth lab found roadside in Sand Springs, in Tulsa County. Residents here at the Melrose Apartments say the situation is scary and stupid.
“They’re idiots!” exclaims Jon MacGirvin, a new tenant at Melrose Apartments. “They don’t watch what they’re doin’. They don’t care if there’s kids out here. They don’t care about any of that.”
MacGirvin moved into this apartment complex in midtown, near 11th and Sheridan, just a couple of weeks ago. He says he can’t believe he’s living in a place where not one, but two separate units had working meth labs inside.
“Y’know, that’s a little too dang close to our apartment, y’know? I mean, it’s like I told my friend, Michael. What would happen if an explosion did happen? We wouldn’t be able to get out of here. We would’ve lost our lives for stupidity,” adds MacGirvin.
Of the eight people taken into custody by Sheriff’s deputies, seven were in possession of meth, including a registered sex offender from another state who had failed to register here, and a pregnant woman, just 19 years old.
