In an exclusive investigation, FOX23’s Scott McFarlane found federal security officers with the TSA has seized a wave of handguns from passengers at Tulsa International Airport.
Details from a public records request show 14 guns have been seized from passengers since January of 2012. Passengers can’t bring guns on a plane or into a terminal. Guns must be checked inside checked luggage and you have to notify the airline first.
Many passengers say they simply forgot and a TSA spokesperson says in all of these cases the passengers don’t “have bad intentions.”
Security consultants say findings like these are why screenings are so rigorous. “Here’s the bad news… if you get pulled over to the point that you need an enhanced pat down, it’s going to be intrusive. It’s gotta be intrusive,” says Rich Roth, an airport security consultant.
A TSA spokesperson does say these gun seizures are “all to frequent.”
