A 13-year-old girl is dead after she was hit by a car in Miami, OK.

The Miami Police Department was called to the auto/pedestrian accident in the 2300 Block of North Main Street around 6 p.m. on Wednesday night.

Miami Police Captain Thomas Anderson told FOX23 that the accident happened on a busy, five-lane road.  Captain Anderson said that 13-year-old Austin Barton was with other children but she ran across the street alone.

“It was already dark outside and any time at night it can be hard to see if that’s not a pedestrian crossing, “said Anderson.

Captain Anderson said that the car that struck the child was in the far outside lane and was traveling north on North Main Street.

Anderson said that the case has been difficult for law enforcement.

“It’s tough and it was very difficult for officers on the scene,” said Anderson.

Barton was transported to Miami Integris Baptist Hospital but later died.

Anderson said that the teenager suffered injuries to the torso and head.

The investigation is ongoing.

Police always say the "streetlights are dim" but look how dazzling bright it is in the video. maybe it's the glare that is the problem, not the darkness.
