A local car wash is out hundreds of dollars after police say someone manipulated the business’s change machine.
Police tell FOX23 that surveillance shows the thief is very skilled at emptying the machine.
He didn’t do it by force either.
Police said he did it electronically.
“He’s using some kind of electronic device that’s making the money drop, and then he’s also able to retrieve the money he put in back,” Sgt. Kurt Dodd told FOX23.
It’s a crime that’s costing a local Fiesta Mart.
“It does damage to the machine, and those machines are thousands of dollars,” Dodd said. “Obviously it’s bad for the business. They lose the money they put out there.”
Police tell FOX23 the thief stood at the change machine for a long time.
They say it really seemed like he knew what he was doing.
“It definitely looks like he’s skilled in this area, so my guess is he has done it in different places,” Dodd added.
They want the public to help identify the man, so they can catch him before he strikes again.
“It’s a big expense for these businesses,” Dodd said. “This time of year it’s really hot. This time of year they are really trying to maintain their carwashes, their businesses. This really hits them in the pocketbook.”
