Obama vows to destroy ISIL

President Obama Addresses The Nation On Terrorism And San Bernardino Attacks

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Quick Facts:

  • Obama: The U.S. and its allies are stepping up fight against ISIL
  • The president continued to reject putting more troops on the ground
  • Obama: ISIL does not speak for Islam. They are thugs and killers.

President Obama addressed the nation from the Oval Office Sunday night to discuss the fights against terrorism and what America must do in response to ISIL and other radicalized groups and individuals.

The president's remarks come less than a week after a terror attack in San Bernardino, California, that left 14 people dead in a mass shooting. Officials said Syed Farook and Tashfeen Malik opened fire in the Inland Regional Center late Wednesday morning.

The FBI determined that Malik had pledged allegiance to the Islamic State on Facebook and that both shooters had been radicalized.
