Investigators have released surveillance video of a man they believe shot and killed two dogs after burglarizing a Wagoner County man’s home.

Rob Chambers’ trailer was stolen in January this year. A month later, his home was burglarized. Investigators believe the dogs were shot in retaliation after Chambers called authorities.

"That was probably the thing that was stolen the most from me," Chambers said about his dogs, Cody and Brownie.

The only thing he has left is pictures of the two dogs as pups. The more recent pictures were stolen.

"Just very cowardly people would do something like this," he said.

He had his Chows for 11 years. Chambers fought to keep the tears from falling. He told FOX23’s Dontaye Carter the last two months have been the hardest.

"They were both laying in the front yard,” Chambers said. “They were shot."

"We recovered some pretty good DNA that we can use to tie the suspect to the crime," said Wagoner County Sheriff’s Major Dustin Dorr.

Both Wagoner and Cherokee County Sheriff's Offices are working the case. The thief took gas generators, fishing poles and even a picture of Chambers' niece.

Investigators say the stolen items were taken for metal. Surveillance video from a recycling center in Tahlequah showed the man dropping off the stolen trailer to sell for cash.

"The trailer wasn't very valuable at all if you're going to go out and sell it. It was valuable more for its weight in metal," said Cherokee County Undersheriff Jason Chennault.

He has turned his case over to the District Attorney’s office. The Humane Society is offering a $5,000 reward for anyone with information that leads to an arrest.
