Earlier this week FOX23 looked into an allegation of a baby illegally given up for adoption.

A picture on Facebook shows the infant and a plea for help saying his mother signed over his rights on a sheet of paper to a friend.

Legally, the state must be involved in the adoption process to make sure the child is placed in good hands.

K.D. Nail and Hair Salon collected donations for the baby. His alleged caretaker picked up the donations on Tuesday. The donations are still coming in but since then, the child’s mother has come forward saying she never abandoned her son.

She emailed FOX23’s Dontaye Carter to say she wanted to clear everything up.

“I’m a responsible young mother, who has a job, a roof over my head and provides for my son,” she wrote.

The two also spoke by phone. She told Carter she thought about giving her son away but never did it.

However, inside the salon people are still giving to a child who was said to be abandoned. The woman who initiated the donation drive declined to comment.

The incident allegedly happened in Creek County.

The Broken Arrow Police Department says they filed a report with the Department of Human Services. The mother of the baby says DHS did come by to check on the baby but didn’t remove him from the home. She says the woman who is alleged to have her son is just the babysitter who she and her son live with.

FOX23 reached out to the babysitter. She declined to comment. DHS says they can’t comment on cases.
We’re told the donations will be picked up this weekend.
