Tulsa law enforcement working to tackle about 50 existing female gangs taking over the streets across Green Country.

Tulsa County gang intervention specialists work undercover with former and current female gang members who are Hispanic, African-American, and Native American.

"There are females who align themselves with crips or blood or Latin kings," Officer Leland Ashley said.

The Tulsa Police Department Gang Unit is fully aware of the gangs. The challenge is stopping them and the drugs and violence that come with them.

Officers say there are two types of gangs.

"Traditional" gangs initiate their members. Women participate in violent initiations and members stay loyal to one group.

"Transitional" gangs are on the move. Members could be affiliated with one gang one day, but move to another neighborhood and join another. Sometimes they're recruited through someone they know.
