Broken Arrow police arrested a woman they say shoplifted from a Walmart and left a child in the cart when confronted.
Police were called to the Walmart at 2301 W. Kenosha around 6:30 on Friday night when a loss prevention employee called to report a woman shoplifting socks and leaving a child behind.
Police say the employee told them a woman was hiding packages of socks under a black coat in a shopping cart and a child was also sleeping in the shopping cart. The employee told police the woman pushed the cart out of the store without paying for the items, and when the employee stopped her she took her purse and walked away, leaving the sleeping child in the cart.
Police say they located a woman matching the description of the shoplifting suspect and she told them her name was Jacqueline Washington. Police say they found socks inside the woman’s purse and took her back to the Walmart where the loss prevention employee identified her.
Washington was arrested for caretaker abuse/neglect and larceny. Police also made contact with the mother of the child who said Washington was the child’s aunt and she was watching the child while the mother was at work.
