The Rogers County District Attorney Office has sent a female dog’s body to Oklahoma State University’s pathology department for a necropsy.
The test will determine whether, the black Labrador Retriever, Jetta, was shot.
Three weeks ago, Jetta’s owners found their dog dragged to death on the side of the road a mile away from their home in Winganon, OK, near Oologah Lake in Rogers County.
Rogers County Sheriff’s Office said at that time it appeared the dog had been dragged behind a vehicle and dragged until it died.
Since then, the story has gone global and a reward for the killer started at $100 from a local animal rescue organization called Wild Heart Ranch and is now up to $10,000.
The owner at WHR, Annette Tucker, was contacted by the family of Jetta asking Tucker how to feed Jetta’s nine puppies. Tucker was so outraged at the incident she put out the reward, which grew to $5,000 and then coaching legend Barry Switzer said he would match that.
“Barry Switzer, God bless him,” said Tucker. “The story just went whooh!
A man came forward to RCSO and admitted he shot the dog but only after he saw it in distress. He then said he tied the legs of it up and dragged it to the road.
Tucker said his story did not add up with the dog owner’s story.
“I found a witness that saw him put the dog in the ditch,” said Tucker. “I was told Jetta was seen on this day with her puppies, and this man is claiming he shot the dog the day before.”
They said they last saw Jetta on Friday morning. The man said he shot a dog on a Wednesday.
With these further details, the DA sent Jetta’s body to OSU to find out if it even has any shrapnel in her body. It has been three weeks though since her body was found.
“There were questions, was she deceased when she was drug, or did she die being drug, that's the million dollar question, and the only way to know that is to exhume the body,” said Tucker.
“No matter what this exam tells, I am going to have questions forever.”
