The family of a Tulsa man convicted of murder is turning to YouTube hoping to prove he's innocent.

Demarco Carpenter is serving a life sentence plus 170 years for a murder he said he did not commit.

“My name is Demarco Carpenter, I’m 36 and I have a life sentence plus 170 years for a murder I did not commit," he said in a YouTube clip pleading for help.

His sister posted the video just a few days ago. The Oklahoma Innocence Project taped him in prison for his family, but he wanted to use the video to get attention instead.

“He had no childhood basically and it was torn from him for someone saying he was with them and he was not," his sister, Lametra, told FOX23.

She said her brother sits in prison for the murder of Karen Summers and for injuring Kenneth Price and Alonzo Johnson. He said he's innocent and wasn't there during the crimes.

“The man that actually committed the murder told police that my brother was with him instead of telling that his actual friends were with him," she said.

According to affidavits one witness said "two people who had nothing to do with the crime were charged and now sit behind bars."

The men went on to say their lives were threatened and that's why they remained silent for all of these years.

One of the men wrote "for 16 years I have lived with a guilty conscience. I felt compelled to come forward and do what is right."

Carpenter mentioned the witness affidavits in his video, "two of the three have since come forward but here I am, still here."

His family prays that Demarco will get another chance to appeal his case. They're hoping the power of social media will help prove his innocence.
