Union Public School leaders gave FOX23 new information about a man arrested for indecent exposure at one of their schools.
On Wednesday, police arrested 36-year-old William Pruitt for touching himself at the Union Alternative school parking lot.
It happened in broad daylight. A campus security officer recognized someone who didn't belong in the parking lot and when he went to talk to Pruitt said he realized what was happening.
Now people in the district say his quick thinking led to an arrest.
“He observed behavior that was not in accordance with our policies and procedures at Union Public Schools,” said Lisa Witcher, a Union Public School employee.
Witcher is in charge of secondary education in the district. She said she's thankful for Security Officer Parrish.
Investigators said on Wednesday around 11 a.m. Pruitt was spotted in his white Pontiac, parked outside the school.
Pruitt had a gray sweatshirt in his lap and refused to show officers his hand. When the officer took the sweatshirt away he noticed Pruitt was naked and touching himself.
“At no time were any students in danger or ever exposed to the gentleman who was on our campus without our permission,” said Witcher.
She said his disturbing actions remind everyone on the campus to stay vigilant.
“I think the nature of the world that we live in has us all on high alert,” she said.
People in the community, like Arthur Robinson, agreed.
“When I was growing up they weren’t having this stuff going on. I just get upset that's all, I couldn't be a cop because I’d lose my job,” said Robinson.
But for those in Union, Parrish was the right person for the job.
