The Tulsa State Fair is in full swing, but it suffered a setback over the weekend when storms rolled in.

FOX23 has learned once the rain cleared, the crowds came out.

After Saturday’s rain, officials with the fair told FOX23 they did see a decrease in attendance but a few people told FOX23they weren't going to let a soggy midway keep them inside.

Rain may have put a damper on festivities for some who were on their way to the fair on Saturday.

Aubrey Collinsworth said the rain only postponed her fun for a little while.

“Well, it was raining really badly all day so we had to wait until about 7,” she said.

Saturday was supposed to pull in big numbers for the fair according to marketing director Sara Thompson.

She said the rain definitely slowed things down, but those faithful to the fair helped pick things right back up.

“We made a great comeback in the evening and had wonderful crowds. The rides were still going and there were a few puddles but it was still busy,” she said.

Officials said by Sunday it was like the rain never happened.

“We were actually able to increase our attendance in gate revenue and now we're up about 14%,” she said.

Thompson said that speaks volumes on how the people feel about the fair.

“Weekends are really big for us at the fair so a rainy Saturday isn't always the best but with a Sunday like we had we are definitely happy that our community came out and supported us,” she said.

Officials tell me they did make up for that decrease with attendance on Sunday and they are expecting the rest of the fair to be just as profitable.
