The Boston bombing last April shook up the marathon world. Even though it's almost six months later, the bombing still feels fresh.

This year at the Tulsa Run, police will be taking extra precautions to make sure everyone is safe. Sgt. Les Young tells FOX23, "This year what we decided to do, based on events that occur this year, we need to have more aggressive and high-profile security in the area."

Sgt. Young also said they will ban coolers, "Don't bring any large backpacks, no coolers. If you do, the officers in the area will ask you to leave the area."

Although the precautions may inconvenience people, Young says he just wants to keep people safe.

Andrew Webb is from Joplin, Mo., and is running in Tulsa for the first time Saturday. He tells FOX23 he is confident he will be safe.
"Yes, absolutely, I feel safe, security in races everywhere have cracked down on that kind of stuff.... it's unfortunate (no coolers allowed) because you need coolers for water, but if it's measures they are taking just to be safe."

There will be added eyes around the event, so Tulsa Police Department's Sgt. Young has no worries for Saturday.
He tells FOX23, "None, not for me.... security concerns we don't have any."

The director of the race, Heath Aucoin, says organizers are going to make sure everyone has a fun, exciting time and the runners will show up no matter what: "Runners will run, nobody is going to make them stop running... in the end it's all about going out and having a good time and enjoying the experience."

The Tulsa Run is also about giving back to the community. This year, a $25,0000 donation will go to the Food Bank of Eastern Tulsa. Also, people can bring canned foods to help support this initiative.
