The Tulsa Health Department released an update to the current investigation into a Tulsa County dentist accused of possibly exposing 7,000 patients to HIV, Hep C and Hep B.

THD is stressing that anyone who was a patient at Dr. Scott Harrington’s dental practice should contact the hotline 918-595-4500 to speak to a public health representative about testing for Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C and HIV.

Patient Information Hotline hours:

7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, March 29
9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, March 30
Closed Sunday for Easter

THD says as of 7 p.m. Thursday evening, the hotline received 407 phone calls.

A special testing clinic has been established at the North Regional Health and Wellness Center located at 5635 N. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. for testing. Services will be provided on a walk-in basis starting on Saturday, March 30 from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. and will resume weekdays beginning Monday, April 1 from 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. Patients who receive a notification letter in the mail should bring their letter with them to the clinic.

The health department sent patients of Dr. Harrington’s dental practice since 2007 notification letters out today, they should be receiving them over the course of the next few weeks. Patients prior to 2007 may not receive a letter because that is as far back as the patient information was kept. A copy of the notification letter is attached to this story.

Patients of Dr. Harrington’s who reside outside of the Tulsa Metro area are advised to contact their local public health department for an appointment for free testing.
The Oklahoma City-County Health Department is offering extended hours and free testing for hepatitis B, hepatitis C, and HIV.

Extended hours for hepatitis B, hepatitis C and HIV testing:
Friday March 29th from 1:00pm – 5:00pm
Saturday March 30th from 10:00am – 2:00pm
April 1st-April 5 extended hours 7:00am-6pm

All testing for patients who were seen by Dr. W. Scott Harrington will be done free of charge at the Oklahoma City- County Health Department’s Main location at 921 NE 23rd, OKC, OK 73105. Services will be provided on a walk-in basis. In addition, the health department has set up a hotline at (405) 425-4437 for people with questions about hepatitis B, hepatitis C, or HIV.

A directory of Oklahoma’s county health departments is available at http://chds.health.ok.gov.
While the case that began the investigation initially tested positive for HIV in a screening test at a third party provider, subsequent diagnostic testing at the Oklahoma Public Health Laboratory indicated the case was not positive for HIV, only Hepatitis C.

The health department will continue to provide situation updates on these websites: www.tulsa-health.org and www.health.ok.gov.
