29 Tulsa fire cadets, 11 Broken Arrow cadets and two Sand Springs cadets are in the last leg of training to become firefighters.

On Thursday night, families celebrated Valentine’s Day evening together watching their cadets battle mock fires.

“This training is part of their certificate to become a fire fighter,” said Tulsa Firefighter Lee Horst.  “This is part of the firefighter two training. It’s called FLAG- Flammable Liquid and Gases.”

The props used to shoot out the gas that caught on fire were tanks, valves and overhead pipes.

“This looks dangerous but this demonstration is more of the cadets showing off their skills that they have learned the last four months of training,” said Horst.

Their families got to watch for almost three hours as cadets knocked out each of the prop’s flames.  The tanker was supposed to shoot up 40-foot high flames, but by the time they got to it, the cadets ran out of propane.

If all 42 cadets pass their next two weeks of exams, they will graduate on March 1st at the Tulsa Convention Center downtown at 2:00 p.m.
