A new development is being built in the fastest-growing area in the state and it is raising concerns about traffic.
The area is Memorial between the Creek Turnpike and 111th street.
but all the growth in the area is creating a tricky traffic situation.
fox23's ian silver is live at the development site near 111th and memorial.
FOX23 talked to the City of Tulsa about the area and learned close to 50,000 cars driver the area every day.
The city recently expanded that stretch of Memorial from 4 lanes to 6 in anticipation of growth.
People in the area are worried that will not be enough.
For Ghengis Grill manager James Jackson the ever-increasing traffic is a catch 22.
It brings more customers, but, “I also think if it goes too fast it's gonna probably hurt us more than it will help us. Yeah, especially with traffic. They’re going to have to do something with the roads," said Jackson.
“I actually live on Memorial, so the stoplights have been a bit of a hindrance. But it's a small price to pay for all the developments that have come in,” said Bixby resident Kimberly Kiker.
They both partially blame recent backups on construction on the Creek Turnpike.
Jackson said it's even worse heading south into Bixby, where the road narrows back to 4 lanes.
“I live at 131st, so I usually take Memorial down and sometimes if it's 5 or 6 o'clock, 111th is just nasty in that little intersection," said Jackson.
Kiker worried it might be too late to keep up with development.
“I don't want them to start until they've finished with they've started. We’ve got so much construction on the Creek."
The City of Tulsa told FOX23 they have no plans to expand the road any wider. Bixby officials did not give any details about plans to expand Memorial at this time.
