A Green Country family dealing with a heartbreaking loss tonight after a two-year-old girl was run over and killed.
Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers say Kimberlee Gentry was accidentally run over by her uncle, 22-year old Jarod Gentry, in the family’s Broken Arrow driveway.
The accident happened around 2:25 p.m. in the neighborhood in the 23800 block of E. 102nd Street.
Troopers say the there were two trucks parked side-by-side in the driveway. As Gentry was pulling out the other truck was blocking his view and he didn’t see Kimberly walk behind his truck until her mother yelled.
A child gone from a tragedy no family wants to go through.
"We lost a very precious little girl today,” says the toddler’s grandmother Jenny Gentry.
Kimberlee Gentry was a two-year-old girl described to have a sweet but sassy attitude and big dimples.
"She was a beautiful blonde hair blue-eyed girl,” says Gentry.
Troopers say Kimberlee’s father’s brother accidentally ran over her when he backed out of the driveway in his black Dodge Ram truck.
"The child came around the truck he was not in and he couldn't see her coming around the back bumper and didn't know until a family member came out and yelled at him,” says Trooper Gary Isbell.
A grandmother says it hard to come to grips with this tragedy.
"Both of my son's are grieving this loss,” says Gentry.
The toddler was life-flighted from the home but died before she got to the hospital.
"The last time I saw her was this morning and she gave me Eskimo kisses on my nose before I went to work this morning,” says Gentry. "My family is grieving. This is a terrible tragedy. I thank all of you for your thoughts and prayers."
In the last year FOX23 News has covered at least four accidents involving children accidentally hit by a car and killed.
Troopers say although you can’t change what has happened this is a reminder to walk around your car to make sure the path is clear when children are in the home and in the neighborhood.
You can also buy a rearview-back up camera at an electronic store for about $80.
Troopers say this was an accident and no charges are expected to be filed.
However, they will turn over their investigation to the Wagoner County District Attorney’s Office
