A 16-year-old boy is recovering in the hospital from a gunshot wound he got during a firework fight.

Police told FOX23 the boy was shot a park in north Tulsa and ran for safety. A woman on her way home found the injured teen and called for help.

Tamaran Neal and her boyfriend had just pulled in when the boy's friends started screaming for her to call an ambulance.

"And I'm like, ‘For what?' And they was like, ‘My
friend is shot, my friend is shot.' And I'm like, ‘Don’t play with me. It's not time to be playing.' And he was like, ‘No,for real. My friend is shot,'" said Neal.

The fight started at Chamberlain Park, where a big group of people was having a fireworks fight. They were shooting fireworks back and forth.

Police said in the melee someone decided to stop shooting fireworks and started shooting a gun.

Neal says medics showed up quickly and found the boy had been shot in the back.

"He really wasn't saying too much, because he was in a lot of pain. He just kept fading off a little bit, you know," said Neal.

Even after medics took over the scene Neal's motherly instincts were still kicking in.

"Little boy gave us his mom's number, and we called his mom. And she came, and she had just missed the ambulance with her baby," said Neal.

Neal consoled her until they found out which hospital he was taken to for treatment.

"I just hope he's OK,”said Neal.

Even though it looks like he will be, Neal said it was a traumatic experience.

"I was scared, because I was like, ‘I hope the baby ain't dead.’ And these kids really need to calm down with the guns," she said.

Police still have no idea who fired the shots since so many people were shooting fireworks at the time.

Neal thinks kids in the neighborhood know, but are too scared to tell police.
