The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is calling the body found on a college campus suspicious.

FOX23 went to Northeastern State University Monday and talked with students who were stunned to hear about what unfolded over the weekend.

A body was found in a parking lot near the football stadium and track. They are both places that students go often, so that made the news even more disturbing for them.

Band practice, class, even intramural football made for what seemed to be a pretty normal day around NSU’s campus.

However, the conversation among the students was anything but normal. On social media, word spread quickly about a body found on campus.

"I was scared that it might've been somebody I knew,” Lynsey Gass told FOX23.

“There's always students that come out here and work out."

Investigators identified the body as 48-year-old Anthony Scott.

Officials say he had no connection to the school. Even so, students are in disbelief, many of them describing the situation as weird.

Scott's body was found in an area that is often full of students.

"A lot of people use the track, so it's just kind of crazy that it happened,” Cory Kirk said.

"There was powder puff practice like two hours before they found the body,” Craig George added.

FOX23 tracked down a copy of the email the president's office sent to everyone on campus. The email says a student discovered the unresponsive man just after 4 Sunday afternoon.

That's when campus and Tahlequah police were called, and the man was pronounced dead.

The investigation was then turned over to the OSBI.

There are a lot of rumors floating around on campus about what happened, but we contacted the OSBI directly Monday.

Its spokesperson tells me absolutely no information will be given out until autopsy results are back from the medical examiner, but she said they are investigating the death as suspicious.
