A Wagoner native teaching near Moore lost her home in the tornado.

Ashley Christensen and her husband moved to Moore four years ago from Wagoner so he could get his PhD from the University of Oklahoma.

She teaches in Putnam City school district and many of her students are on fixed incomes, that didn't stop them from finding a way to help their third grade teacher.

Armed with a bag filled with $175, Mrs. Christensen's third grade students raised more than $200 for her family, who lost their home in the tornado.

"My kids don't have a lot but what they did I will never, ever, ever forget, ever, ever," said Christensen.

She teaches at Tulakes Elementary, a title one school that is on free lunch.

“They are such good kids and I love them so much and I will never forget this, ever, ever," she said.

They even raised enough money to buy her a Thunder t-shirt and a green bin they stuffed with school supplies.

"They put books in the containers, pencils, erasers; they had a stamp in case I needed a stamp. They put hair products in there in case I wanted to do my hair," she said.

Christensen is not only a dedicated teacher, but a wife and mother.

When she left her school she started driving and then walked in leopard print flats.

“Eight miles,” she said.

Cell towers were down and she couldn't get a hold of her husband and 11-month old son.

“I just kept going and I wanted to get to my husband and my son and my dogs until I knew they were okay," she said.

The tornado destroyed her home and they are living in a motel, but still wants to give back.

“Hopefully to help them, do something to help them. I couldn't ask for a better place to be, I am so thankful," said the teacher.

Christensen told us a pre-k student from her school also raised $147 in change for her family.
