Police are investigating the murder of a South Tulsa teen.  They say another teenager shot and killed 18-year-old Kaitlyn Finnegan Saturday night.

Fox 23’s Marianly Mendez spoke to Finnegan’s parents.

“It's not supposed to happen that your child dies before you do,” Jeanne Finnegan said between sobs.

She was their oldest and only daughter.  Jeanne and Jim are trying to accept that she’s gone.

“It's hard to see your daughter in the hospital and you can't even touch her," Jim Finnegan said.

His daughter died at the hospital before he could say goodbye.

“I don't understand how it could happen, why it happened. It doesn't make sense- kids with guns," Jim said.
Tulsa police told Fox 23 the Bishop Kelly High School student was shot at a friend’s house.  No one called police after the shooting; instead a friend drove her to the hospital.

Officers arrested 17-year-old Theo Fleming on a first-degree murder complaint. They say he shot Kaitlyn.

Her parents say the two were beginning to date.

“He knew what he was doing. He had a gun. He knew what a gun would do. To point it at her and pull the trigger, just to be screwing around. He still should go to jail for murder," Jeanne said.

The family is hoping help from above will carry them through it.

"I miss her a lot. This is a bad dream," Jim said.

Kaitlyn's family says they will set up a memorial fund for funeral expenses.

The suspect, Theo Fleming was booked as an adult and is in Tulsa County Jail.

My heart and prayers go out to both families. There are two lifes gone. With all the mixed stories, how does anyone know what really happened? If it was an accident this young man will forever carry this in heart, if it was not then God will pass judgement. May Kaitlyn rest in peace. Theo say strong and remember the Lord walks beside you and your not alone.

Excuse me citizenatlarge, I guess you can blame your pencil for misspelled words too. Next we'll be blaming the auto dealerships for selling cars to drunk drivers who kill and injure. My prayers are with the family of this victim, but let's wait until the story is revealed before we pass judgement on the gun shows.

Hold it, citizenatlarge...before anybody starts connecting dots between this and the gun shows, which I know they will...NO teenager bought a gun at the gun show. This is a case of a rotten kid thinking he's cool by carrying a gun (illegally). I carry a gun too (legally), but not to make myself or anyone else think I'm cool, but to defend myself against punks like this kid.

Ironic that this story runs just above the one on "Gun Show Sets Attendance Record".

Life??? I think NOT!! how long do we have to support these kids? this child did not get any kind of life.. the person who did this should be put to death.. why take a chance that in 20 years the bleeding hearts of this state will decide he has been a good boy and he is out living and breathing.. while this little girl lays cold in her grave..
