Tulsa police are investigating a human skull found in someone's yard in north Tulsa yard near 2300 block of E. 31st North on Monday.

Police think a coyote may have dropped the skull there after coming out of the woods near west 31st Street North and Gilcrease Museum Road.

FOX23 talked to the 10-year-old cousins who found the skull.

It was a normal Sunday playing outside for Christian and Dayion Davis.

"We were playing cops and robbers. He was the cop, I was the robber," said Christian.

But suddenly the game got a little too real.

"I said 'Dayion, that's a skull!'" said Christian.

"I went out there and looked, and I was like, 'Yes it is!' and it had braces," said Dayion.

The boys kept it a secret until Monday night when they told Naketa Davis, the mother of one boy and aunt of the other.

"It's not a joke, it's not a Halloween thing. It's for real. I was hoping it wasn't real. But then when I saw the braces, I'm like, 'Oh my god, that's somebody's kid,'" she said.

"We saw like a bruise over the right eye. Like someone had hit him over the head with a hammer or something," the boys said.

Something that terrified Christian.

"Me and my grandpa walk every day back there, so it kind of scared me, cause just knowing that we walk back there and whoever did it could have got us and did something like that to us," he said.

And though his family assures him he's safe,

"No, I'll never forget that," he said.

And while she wishes the boys hadn't seen something like that, Davis is trying to turn it into an important life lesson for two precocious young boys.

"So we can say, 'OK, now you see why we say use the buddy system,'" she said.

Police continued searching the woods for the rest of the body on Tuesday and again Wednesday morning with no luck.

They aren't releasing any details, but they tell us they have a good idea of who the skull belongs to: a Tulsan who went missing in the past year.

This is the city's 49th homicide.

Some black devils out there in N Tulsa. Hope they can find the trashy rat that did that. Thanks to the fourlegged investigators that turned up this tip :-)
