A sister tells FOX23 about her brother, Graydon Wesley Brown, a bystander, who was shot and killed at a Tulsa Best Buy.
The deadly, gang-related shooting happened on Saturday afternoon at the Best Buy on Skelly Drive. The suspect's bullet hit his intended target, Scott Norman, and an errant bullet flew through the glass doors and struck 58-year-old Brown while he was shopping with his ten-year-old daughter.
“It's horrible, you can't imagine, a child shouldn't have to go through this,” cried Brown’s older sister, Gracelyn Brown. She called her brother Wesley. “He was standing looking at DVDs, holding his little girl's hand. “My niece told me this morning that she lost her best friend, her father.”
Gracelyn lives in Los Angeles and flew into Tulsa Saturday night after hearing about her younger brother's death. She remembers their last phone conversation a week ago.
“He was telling me about the basketball camp that his daughter had attended, and how he was trying to help her be a better basketball player, “said Brown. “And at the end of every conversation to him, I would say 'I so admire all the time you spend with your daughter and all the things you do for her, you are the best father in the whole world.'”
Wesley Brown was a devout husband and father. He and his wife were married for the last 12 years. Gracelyn Brown has a message for the shooter.
“I know he did not intend to kill my brother, but he did. We are asking him to come forward and to redeem himself. That's the best way for him to honor our brother.”
Even in her time of sorrow she thinks of the other victim’s family.
“I know that there was another victim, and our family’s condolences go out to Scott Norman’s family and his mother.”
She wishes for one thing.
“What I wish most, I wish I could talk to my brother one more time. I would like to talk to him one more time, tell him that I love him just to hear his voice.”
Wesley Brown was heavily involved with the Tulsa Contra Dancing community. Gracelyn Brown thanks everyone there and everyone he worked with and their friends for their support and phone calls over the last couple days.
