Shots fired near Tulsa elementary school

Students at Celia Clinton Elementary School were eventually released from school late Tuesday afternoon after being on lockdown for two hours and 15 minutes.

Tulsa police allowed parents to pick up kids in the building, students who walk home were released and students who typically ride the bus home are being taken home by police officers.

Tulsa Public Schools officials say the lockdown was a standard precaution. Five nearby schools were also placed on modified lock down, which meant students can not walk home until TPD gives the all clear but can get on the school bus or be picked up by parents.  Lockdowns on those schools, Hamilton,  Owen, Sequoyah, Jackson and Springdale, were all lifted by 5pm.

Tulsa police say they were called to the area just before 2 p.m. in reference to a shots fired call. Officers received information the suspect fired a gun on the north side of the school and left the area.  There are no victims or injuries involved.  Police are working to get the students safely with their parents. 

Police searched the surrounding areas and interviewed neighbors about the incident. No arrests have been made but police say every precaution was taken to protect the children and their families that were coming to pick them up.  TPD and TPS both say the response was more swift and detailed due to the shooting tragedy in Newtown, CT, last Friday.
