Broken Arrow is a growing community that is working to stay ahead of all of the expansions.

Broken Arrow Mayor Craig Thurmond said that he credits the community for staying ahead of the traffic game as new subdivisions, retails spaces and restaurants that continue to pop up in the city.

“I think we have done a good job staying ahead of our growth and citizens have been very supportive in supporting our infrastructure,” said Thurmond.
FOX23 spoke with Mayor Thurmond about the upcoming road widening projects in various parts of the city.

Thurmond said that the Aspen road widening contract has been approved. Construction with begin in the next couple of weeks to expand the two lane road on Aspen from Florence to Tucson. That area is 145th East Avenue from 1111th to 121st. Thurmond said that another road overhaul should follow about 2 weeks later at Tucson widening from Aspen to Elm.

“The hope is that this will accommodate the traffic and growth in and around Warren Theater area,” said Thurmond.

Thurmond said that the Lynn Lane widening project from 61st south to the Broken Arrow Expressway will begin after the first of the year.
The road work projects will expand two lane roads to five lanes.

“We will do five lane roads and while we are building on one side of the road we will move traffic to the other side as they normally do,” said Thurmond.
