President Barack Obama called the shooting death of an unarmed African-American teenager in Florida a ‘tragedy.’

17-year old Trayvon Martin was shot and killed on February 26th in Orlando by a neighborhood watch volunteer.

Obama commented on the shooting after being asked about the incident after a ceremony in the White House rose garden. The president says he feels sorry for the parents of the suburban Orlando teen and says "every parent in America" should understand why it is "absolutely imperative" that the case is investigated.

FOX News host Geraldo Rivera discussed Martin’s death on “Fox & Friends” on Friday morning and said Martin’s clothing played a part in his shooting death.

‘I am urging parents of black and Latino youngsters to not let their children go out wearing hoodies. I think the hoodie is as much responsible for Trayvon Martin’s death as George Zimmerman was.”

George Zimmerman, a neighborhood watch volunteer, said he shot Martin in self defense.

So let's see: by Rivera's reasoning, as well as Flroid's "self defense" satute, even though Trayvon was walking away from his assailant, the "hoody" posed such an existential threat to Zimmerman, he therefore was justified in shooting and killing an unarmed teenager? What on earth people has happened to the Rule of Law int his coundtry? Do we live in the Middle Ages? Is anywone else reminded that this is same kind of justice Bashar al-Assad's government practices in Syria. Judge jury and execute first; ask questions later, if at all.

I don't agree with Gealdo statement we are military and our sons wear hoodies. I wish someone would take either of my sons life because of what they're wearing, my kids are honor students what they wear doesn't define who my kids are, it wasn't about Trayvon hoodie but about his skin color the world today is still against African American and feel we still should be slaves as for Geraldo what if someone killed him because he's old or look funny or members in his family attacked and killed because of something they wear or other things, does it give a rapist a right to rape a women because of what they have on or a butcher to stabb an individual because he cut poultry all day or like myself a heterosexuals who kill a gay person because I don't agree with their lifestyle or vice versa. I know if it was the other way around the African American male wouldn't stand a chance I'm a mother of 4 and it wouldn't be nothing nice if someone took one of my babies for racial or any reason, he felt he had to kill this young man due to the color of his skin.

@watchdog11. Well first things first, 1- That kid was killed a few houses away from his destination (that's what I read in the original report in my local news paper). 2- I'm Mexican, Hispanic = Hispano. Hispano parlante is someone who speaks spanish, so.... me. Latino would also include a Brasilian because Portuguese is also a latin based language (or romance language)Hispano technically means someone from Spain, which I am not, but after years of explaining that to Americans to no avail, I just gave up, it's wrong, but at least you know what I mean. I did not say Mexican because I didn't think nationallity was relevant. And that president you are talking about who made up the word must have been about 1000 years ago. 3- you are the one making this political, not me. 4- N*pp is a racial slur for Japanese, but Nippon is the Japanese name for that country, so it is not really an insult is it? I don't get offended by being called sp*c. Just like I don't get why the N-word is offensive (of course I mean the word itself) since it comes from "negroe" which means black. 5- I did not get pulled over in Tulsa, it was in Irvine California, there may be non-whites in Irvine, but to be honest I have never seen one in the 10+ years I drove in that city. And not once I got a real ticket nor I have a criminal record, so I didn't do anything wrong as far as I can see, unless me driving after dark in that city is considered a suspicious activity. 6- And next time you drive let's say 45mph, at random pick a car traveling the other way. If you cannot tell the skin color of the driver you seriously need to stop driving before you hurt someone. Thank you for keeping the conversation civil. Stay classy.

He didn't come back because that was where he was going, he didn't live in the gated community. I don't deny there is still racially motivated incidents, but there is no community or city in the U.S with any population of any size in which all officers are white, in Tulsa we have a huge racial diversity of officers, so that dog won't hunt honey, if you got pulled over, it wasn't because you are "hispanic", which I doubt you are since you called yourself hispanic instead of latino, I am sure you know the word hispanic is a made up word which began with one of our ?Democrat presidents, that is where the shortened racial slur "sp*c came from, whenever you are called hispanic, they are basically calling you that. I am pretty sure an officer buzzing by at 45 mph or more is not able to identify your race unless you were wearing a sombrero and holding a taco out the window.I get pulled over and ticketed all the time, I am old, fat non- white myself, I don't take it personal, I just pay the ticket and try to be more careful next time, in other words, I take responsibility for breaking whatever speed limit or whatever law I broke, I don't look for justification and pity. Get real, you are trying to make excuses for your mistakes or possible criminal behavior and heat up this racist war, people like you are what is wrong with this country, you are full of s**t.

@watchdog11. Let's say I am in that situation. I am going to my Dad's house far from my house, in a community I don't live in. I outrun the guy but, don't I have to come back anyways since that IS the place I am going to in the first place? Zimmerman was told by the police not to follow that kid, I heard that 911 call. Unless you were there I'm not sure you actally know what really happened. And about that "myth" "urban legend" that you talk about, I have 4 different been followed for a few blocks, and then pulled over and given a ridiculous fix up ticket but not before: have my car searched while I had to sit on a curb in a VERY cold night, or been asked the stupidist questions, or been escorted out of "his" city, or been given a ticket for not wearing a sit belt on the back sit (although I did have it on, but I was asked to step out of the car). one time he even cut people off to make a U-turn to follow me and at the end I got a ticket for having one of the little lights on my rear licence plate broken. I mean sure I am hispanic and I was in a mostly white & rich city, but clearly it had nothing to do with racial profiling, it was my fault for playing hockey in the ice rink in that city or dating outside of my community.

Uh yeah, Simpson never went to jail because blacks threatened to destroy LA, he was guilty as sin,but avoided jail by tyranny and bullying, so that isn't a good example dear. I doubt this man Zimmerman knew what color the kid was when he first encountered him, or if he belonged inside that gated community, when he asked the kid to stop and identify himself, he put his hood up and ran, in fact he out ran the fat man, then went back to knock him down, the kid claimed to be scared, but he stayed on the cell with his girlfriend instead of calling the cops, the neighborhood watch was on alert because there had been so many breakins preceeding this event. I think Zimmerman would have shot anyone no matter what color they were because the kid knocked him down, and he was probably scared because he couldn't tell how old the kid was, he was over 6 feet tall, that can be scary with someone towering over you in that situation, a cop would have shot the kid too, regardless of his color. I am not white either, and I am aware of the myth of different treatment by police, but that isn't true, my son who looks very white had an experience which convinced me it was urban legend and a flat out lie perpetrated as a ready made excuse for the use of criminals, and to keep the racial division alive, stupid as that is, racial division doesn't help anyone in the end.

Rivera has lost his rabbit-a** mind! A hoodie is a hoodie whether or not the wearer has the hood over his/her head. Who really believes that a white athlete wearing athletic gear with a 'hooded sweatshirt' heading for practice would be followed by Zimmerman? We must remember that in these United States of America the color of the victim is the defining issue as to if and when and how aggressively a murder is investigated and/or prosecuted. Nicole Brown Simpson?

As sad as it is, what caused the kids death was being inside a gated community at night where so many crimes had recently been happening, those people in those homes are on edge, the watch is on edge, and the kid didn't stop to explain who he was or what he was doing, ran, then went back and attacked the man, it is always a tragedy when a young person dies, but I don't think the Black Panthers have any right to put a bounty on this guys head, I remember Shabazz telling the other Black Panthers to "go out and kill them cracker babies", they are not the ones to judge this man, and you all aren't either, we need to wait, so far we have only heard one side of the story, I think the guy is screwed anyway because while his former record can be made public, the kids can't because he is a juvenile. The president and everyone else needs to stop trying and convicting this man in the public arena, he is entitled to a fair trial, and is still innocent until proven guilty, this is for the moment anyway, still America.

You mean to tell me Geraldo Rivera is racial profiling. Well if that is the case did Geraldo run from the boarder. I tell you we still have a long way to go, especially with Fox allowing ignorant people in the spot light.
