The Postal Service is self sufficient, it takes not one penny of your tax dollars. In 2006 Congress made it law the USPS pays for health care benefits for employees 75 years in advance within a 10 year period. No other compay has this mandate nor could any other company survive with this mandate. It's called the Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act (PAEA) of 2006. If Republican Issa from California would allow a bill to reach the House floor to end this mandate the USPS would be making hundreds of millions of dollars profit each month and services to the public would remain intact. The Postal Service is a public service, don't allow the politicians to dismantle your rights. Call your Congressman to end the PAEA and protect your right to door to door service.

If the USPS would simply charge the same for all mail (instead of giving junk mail and church advertisements a 50% discount) it would move into the profit column in nothing flat.

The USPS is a constitutionally mandated entity. The argument that they lose money is meaningless in that there is no constitutional requirement that they, or any other required government entity, make a profit. We pay for stamps to simply defray the cost of the service, not to pay for it. It is a per use tax. Deal with it or petition for an Amendment that would eradicate it once and for all (and they be grateful when FedEx charges you $10 to mail a birthday card.

I do not see the big deal with these Community mail box systems (as we call them here in Ontario Canada). We have had these systems around for well over 10 years now.

when people complain about government services doing things such as this i find it rather ironic that they also fight against the government raising taxes. Do they think these services are free??

They got the first part right, cluster. The only mail I get is junk advertising. I just changed my phone bill to paperless. Most of what USPS delivers is trash.

Get the Government out of the Postal Business. Privatize it, let it charge what it wants to, let it have competition, and more importantly let it sink or swim. More importantly, get rid of all the Government employees with their bloated benefits and retirement.
