Overflowing dumpsters and apartments without air-conditioning are just some of the problems families told FOX23 they are dealing with at an East Tulsa apartment complex near East 12th Street and Memorial Drive.
From across the street FOX23 cameras could see the problem. There was too much trash to fit in the dumpster. Piles began to form in the dumping area.
“(There are) flies and maggots flying around there, trash everywhere," said tenant Anthony Ester.
"I was getting ready to call the health department," said another tenant, Linda Caldwell. "That ain't right for there to be all that trash to be out there like that."
The two say it's a problem everyone in the Cove Apartments on Memorial has had to deal with but it doesn't just stop there. FOX23 learned there have been apartments without air-conditioning for at least three months.
"It is about 100-and-something degrees in that apartment," said Ester. "It is hot in there."
He lived in one of the apartments without air-conditioning. Management told FOX23 he's upset because he faces eviction.
“Air-condition man tells us the reason we haven't come back and fixed it because they haven't paid us our money," Ester told Fox23's Dontaye Carter.
FOX23 found out as many as 17 apartments have been without air-conditioning for months.
And there have been delays in the new owners paying the bills and lack of upkeep.
"It's not right. It's not healthy. It's time for them to clean these apartments," said Caldwell. "Get all that trash. Get all that mold."
"I'm concerned about the kids and their health," said Ester.
We've been told the trash bill has been paid. Trash is scheduled to be picked up on Friday.
