Gwendolyn Young, a prisoner at David L Moss Criminal Justice Center, died February 8th after being transported to a hospital from the jail.
Detention officers noticed Young in distress and called for on-site medical staff to help. An EMSA ambulance then transported the 52-year-old to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead by doctors.
The cause of death is still under investigation and will be determined by the State Medical Examiner's Office.
According to court records, Young was in jail serving a one year sentence for threatening an officer.
