Tulsa police are searching for a man who assaulted a bail bondsman and then carjacked a woman to get away.
The bondsman was trying to pick up 30-year-old Jonah Beartusk outside the Smoothie King at 51st and Yale around 8:30 Wednesday morning but Beartusk got away.
Police told FOX23 they are now looking for him in Bixby.
Bail bondsman Brian Perkins got a tip Beartusk was at the Smoothie King so he came to pick take him into custody on a warrant for failure to appear in court after he was charged with bringing contraband into a corrections facility.
"I've dealt with him before. I've arrested him before. And I felt like it would pretty smoothly. And I drove out here, and of course he recognized me having dealt with me before," said Perkins.
Instead, Beartusk and Perkins got in a fight and Beartusk was able to pepper spray Perkins and get away.
“I released my pepper spray from the pouch and undid it from the pouch, and was going to attempt to subdue him with that. And when I unlocked that, he got hold of it and he actually sprayed me,” said Perkins.
Police said Beartusk ran to a nearby apartment complex, and with a handcuff locked on one hand, he ran to a nearby neighborhood and broke into a home and took money from an elderly woman's purse.
Police said the man then carjacked the woman's daughter when she showed up. They said he was last seen driving a grey and teal Ford Taurus with the tag 465-DWZ.
Perkins told FOX23 he thinks Beartusk reacted the way he did because he has reason to believe Beartusk is using drugs.
