Police have identified the man shot to death Tuesday as 36-year-old Lemont Watson.
Marquis Morris is in the Tulsa County Jail charged in the shooting that led to an Amber Alert after police said Morris fled with an 11-year-old girl.
Morris is the girl’s mother’s ex-boyfriend. Watson was living with Megan Sam and her daughter Odyssi when he was killed Tuesday.
FOX23 found a home on East Zion Street listed as Watson’s home address in court documents as recently as November.
Neighbors recognized a picture of Watson and Sam as neighbors who used to live next door.
“I used to see the little girl playing in the street, riding her bicycle, throwing the basketball,” Michael Mosley said.
He also told FOX23 he recalled a fairly normal, but troubled family.
“They seem like fairly common, there was a lot of arguing and fussing, this is and that during different times and that’s why police were called out also,” Mosley says explaining police were called the home more than once. “Police had come over, a guy had jumped the fence and they had SWAT team all in my yard.”
FOX23 read through court documents that show November 12, 2013 Watson and Sam were arrested at a West Tulsa hotel after sheriff’s deputies found marijuana and methamphetamine.
So far, no family members are willing to talk with FOX23, but a woman posted to the FOX23 Facebook page sayings he is suspect shooter Marquis Morris’ wife.
She says the shooting was in self-defense as Morris went to pick up the 11-year-old saying, “When he got there the boyfriend started pushing the lil girl and then started attacking her dad.” (sic)
We checked with police who say they are looking into the self-defense claim, but say the evidence shows no signs of self-defense.
