It's a place where their children go to learn.
For parents like Lisa Caldwell, an investigation taking place within the halls of the Lower Elementary Verdigris Elementary School is alarming.
"Yeah, it's very concerning, I have three children and I send them to school every day and they are supposed to be safe and protected," said Caldwell.
The Verdigris Police Department would only confirm with FOX23 that there was an investigation, but when we went to talk with the superintendent, he said it was a phone call that brought them to this point.
"Last night it was heard that there could be a police report filed against a teacher that possibly had assaulted a child in the classroom," said Superintendent Mike Payne.
Payne said the investigation started Thursday morning. The teacher's name isn't being released.
"The teacher is still employed by the school district and still in place," said Payne.
For now it's a lot of leg work for the school, and police trying to find out what did or didn't happen.
The school's superintendent told FOX23 that the school has never had any allegations like this, so the administration is taking this investigation seriously.
"You want to investigate it and find out the facts and take the appropriate action," Payne said.
The investigation could take up to a week.
Caldwell said she thinks police and the school are taking the right steps but hopes it's sorted out soon.
"Any type of investigation into any of the teachers is, or to anybody that has anything to do with our children is alarming," Caldwell said.
