A picture shared on Facebook has brought conditions at a Nowata Animal Shelter into question.
That picture came with a caption that has made some wonder if at least 20 dogs were left in the cold.
“Much ado about nothing," said Nowata City Manager, Walter Love.
The caption that came with the image claimed a pug-mix; named Mitzi was curled up in her food bowl, freezing because heat wasn't available.
The Facebook post was enough to move a bunch of angry people to leave caretaker, Bill Bright some pretty icy messages.
"People are calling, telling me all day yesterday that I need to be put in jail for animal cruelty," said Bright.
Bright said Sheryl snapped the photo when she dropped by the shelter over the weekend.
"I thought she was going help get some of the dogs adopted,” said Bright.
Instead, online, this is what she typed: "They have no heat,” said Sheryl. "So she sleeps in her food bowl to try and stay warm."
The heater hadn't been used, but Love said it was for good reason.
“I did not want to fire a heater that had not been safety checked first," said Love.
Love admitted, he didn't know how long it had been since this heater had been checked.
FOX23 called Bright over the weekend to talk about it. By Monday afternoon someone from a heating and air company made sure it worked properly.
The animal shelter will be getting more renovations. Roof repairs will begin next week. For more on how to adopt a pet from the shelter call the Nowata Animal Shelter at (918) 273-3531.
