FOX23 is learning new information about a bizarre shooting in Rogers County on Saturday.
Omar Pineda is in jail. Deputies say he and his friends were looking for Bigfoot when one of their friends was shot.
Rogers County deputies arrested three men and one man is in hospital after an alleged accidental shooting Saturday night.
The men said they were out hunting Bigfoot or Sasquatch at the time of the shooting.
This happened on private property in Catoosa.
Rogers County Sheriff Scott Walton told FOX23 Bigfoot isn't actually what they were hunting for.
"That was actually terminology that they used for when they go out at night varmint hunting," he said.
According to the arrest report, while Omar Pineda and Joseph Smalley were in the woods, Pineda heard barking that startled him.
"When one individual heard the noise behind him, he turned and accidentally discharged his weapon, which struck his friend," said Walton.
That's when Pineda called his wife Lacey and father-in-law Perry James for help.
While Lacey took them to a nearby QuikTrip, James threw the gun in the pond.
Deputies say Lacey at first claimed they were being shot at to protect her husband; she was booked and later released.
James was arrested on charges of destroying evidence and later released. Although given different versions of the story to deputies "at this stage we don't have anything other than to believe it was accidental," said Walton.
