Okmulgee's street department got a new supply of salt and sand just in time for Thursday’s weather.
FOX23 learned from the city they got the supplies shipped in Wednesday. Right before they got hit by the heaviest of Thursday’s winter weather.
The main streets looked pretty clear Thursday afternoon, but the street department manager told FOX23 getting the supplies to clear them wasn't easy.
Neighborhood road after neighborhood after neighborhood - parts of Okmulgee looked more like a big ice skating rink. One woman told FOX23 she was on the road only because she had to get to work.
FOX23 checked with the city of Okmulgee’s street department and found out four street crews were out plowing and putting sand and salt mix on the roads.
“About a year ago I bought from a place up there that they didn't have any available this year so we had to start looking,” said Phil Paden with the city.
He said he called around and even called the state to get help finding salt.
FOX23 checked with the Oklahoma Department of Transportation and they will continue to monitor the highways in Okmulgee County through the night because there could be black ice.
