FOX23 has confirmed with Oklahoma Highway Patrol that there was a trooper involved shooting that left a man dead.

Captain George Brown with OHP told FOX23 that the incident began as a routine traffic stop in west Tulsa around 9 p.m. Brown said that at some point the suspect got out of the vehicle and ran from the trooper and jumped fences in a neighborhood.

Captain Brown said that when the trooper made contact with the suspect the man reached for the troopers gun. The trooper then shot the suspect. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.

OHP has launched an investigation into the situation.

I was one of the only people there and know what REALLY happened.I was less than 10 feet away from the traffic stop. Tel Rodgers was walking towards the troppers patrol car with his hands up. So ya.What really needs to be told is that there were 3 childern being left in the car til my wife got them out. I will be more than happy to tell everyone what really happened and why did OHP take the neighbors gun and why was there such a long pause in between the 2 shots.

These troopers need to be investigated. The so called reaching in for the troopers weapon was not recorded on dash camera. We have to take the troopers word for it.. Ok so I need details. If the officer was in persuit of this man... at what point did they stop running and how was it that he grabbed for the troopers gun, when he was shot in the back... Things that make you go hmm.. I am praying for Tammy and his kids. Hang in there.

This makes four OHP shootings in two weeks, none of which are being independently investigated.

Try to remember that this person who is now deceased has family and friends who loved them. Their presence will be GREATLY missed. There were sweet children who's lives are forever changed. Regardless of why it happened, what could have provoked the behavior, or if everything listed in this story is true- has no relevance to the fact that a precious life was lost. It is easy to judge and point fingers. Please try to consider those feelings of those who loved them when posting comments.

Unwashed mass (aka dirty sermon) So what if the gun was already in hand. That makes the person who reached for it even dumber cause they're definitely deader now #8 ^]]

"why grab for the gun?" ...assumes the shooter was telling the truth. Sometimes they dont. The cop in Phoenix was sure he was going to get away with murder until his partner found his conscience and refused to go along with the story. Bottom line, if a cop is chasing someone, his gun is already in his hand, and the official versions spun by the PIO's aren't always the truth.

There is no clear indication that the car was close enough to the scene to give any clear indication of the occurrences. However the question that comes to mind would have to be WHY RUN? of course ask why grab for the gun??? Each question can be answered in the same manner. Must be due to a high level of stupidity.

So lets see the dashcam video. Oh, wait, OHP is above the law and doesn't have to comply with the Open Records Act.

Unwashed Mess has no problem playing Monday Morning Quarterback, but might see things differently if out on patrol. Let's wait and see before we convict the Trooper of murder.
