The Oklahoma Department of Transportation released the following update on road conditions caused by winter weather.

Slick and hazardous conditions are reported in northwestern Oklahoma and travel is still discouraged while crews continue to clear and treat some snow packed roads. Crews in central and northeastern Oklahoma report improving conditions on highways and interstates, with some isolated slick areas remaining which are still being treated as needed.

With temperatures expected to plunge overnight, drivers should be alert for black ice conditions to quickly develop and to use caution, especially on bridges and overpasses. Black ice is when areas still appear wet or pooled on the roadway, but it is actually a thin layer of ice and can be deceiving. Potential for black ice will likely exist into the morning hours. Drivers should remain cautious and drive for conditions. Crews will continue treating those spots as well.

Additional advisories will be sent from this office as conditions change.

During snow and/or ice conditions, motorists need to:
• Check road conditions before getting out on the roads.
• Be aware of "black ice," which looks wet on the roadway, but is actually a thin layer of ice.
• Stay at least 200 feet behind road-clearing equipment; crews need room to maneuver and can engage plowing or spreading materials without notice.

If drivers must travel out of state, they are urged to check area road conditions before heading out.

But back to road conditions :-) all that salt they put on the road gets all over the car and can cause damage. Just stumbled into this on youtube. Says pickle juice works better than salt. http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2014/02/140204-melt-snow-ice-salt-beet-juice-pickle-brine/
