Officers say one of the people also assaulted the man with a handgun inside his home on West Okmulgee Street.
Friday, FOX23 learned police are working on a description for three people who knocked on a door at the Oaks apartment complex armed with a handgun. When the victim answered the door he was attacked and robbed.
"I hate that happened. I was shocked," said Donald McJunkin, an Oaks apartment resident.
He told FOX23's Dontaye Carter it's upsetting to hear a neighbor and a man he knows was beaten and robbed early Friday morning.
"You see it all the time-- people knock on your door and then they rush you," said McJunkin.
Police rushed to the scene but the only lead they have now is three people (two men and one woman) forced their way into an apartment. The descriptions are vague but police are hoping once the man gets out of the hospital they'll know more.
"Me personally, if someone knocks on my door at 2 in the morning, I'm going to be skeptical anyway. Neighbors need to be very vigilant. If they see someone out, someone suspicious and know they're not supposed to be out, call us," said Muskogee Police Lieutenant Bobby Lee.
"It's not safe. Everything is happening nowadays and it's not a good thing," said McJunkin.
He says it may not have played out the same at his apartment.
"It wouldn't be good, because I'm not going to the door without anything that's not hot," he said.
Police say if someone does come to your door that you do not recognize, call them.
