OWASSO, Okla. - Owasso police have arrested a suspect in the shooting of a man.
It happened Thursday night at a home near 86th Street North and Highway 169. Police say at least five shots were fired.
The mother of the victim, Houston Brown, spoke exclusively to FOX23’s Janai Norman.
“I'm trying to make it. Houston is a good person, he's a good person,” said Lorene Brown.
She spoke to FOX23 between trips to the hospital to visit her son.
Police say he got into a fight with Thomas Cooper on Thursday before Cooper opened fire, hitting Brown five times, including once in the back of the head.
“My granddaughter came and knocked on my window, and told me what had happened; I didn't even ask how she knew or anything. We went to the hospital,” said Brown.
While she waited for updates at St. John, police interviewed witnesses and eventually arrested Cooper on one complaint of shooting with intent to kill.
FOX23 was there as police led Cooper to a van to be transported to the Tulsa County Jail. Cooper did not answer any questions.
“Thank God, thank God, he needs to go to justice I mean, you don't just come up and shoot somebody from behind in the back, empty a gun on him and try to kill him, that's not normal,” said Brown.
But having her son's accused shooter in jail is only half the battle for Brown.
“It's hard, very hard, very hard,” she said.
Already we know Houston Brown has undergone more than one surgery.
His family said they nearly lost him once already, but doctors were able to revive him.
Lorene Brown said she's praying her son makes it, while she's just trying to make it through herself.
“I'm trying to make it, I just don't know, ya know, what's going to happen to him, we'll see it, it's all up to God,” she said.
The deputy police chief of Owasso told FOX23 it is unlikely any other arrests will be made in this case.
