Seven lawsuits have been filed against Dr. Scott Harrington.

The Tulsa dentist is accused of exposing thousands of patients to HIV, Hepatitis B and C through unsanitary practices.

One former patient of Tulsa dentist Dr. Scott Harrington is suing him for possibly infecting her with what she calls severe illnesses.

Jodie Brown is being represented by Paul Boudreaux, a local attorney with Richardson, Richardson, Boudreaux Keesling Attorneys.

Dr. Scott Harrington is accused of malpractice, he's been a practicing dentist for 36 years. The Tulsa Health Department has tested about 3,700 of his former patients for hepatitis B, C, and HIV. 65 results came back positive for hepatitis C.

Brown said she used Dr. Harrington to have a tooth removed on July 31st, 2007.

“He didn’t even come in the room, but his dental assistants and staff were the ones who did everything,” said Brown.  “They had to sedate me three times for the procedure and I remember at one point one of them removed her gloves because she said she could feel my pulse easier or something, it was weird but at the time I didn’t think much of it.”

She said that same night she went home and kept vomiting.

“I went to the emergency room the next day they sent me home with abdominal pain and several days later I was getting worse not better,” said Brown.  “My liver enzymes were in the tens of thousands.  The doctors told me husband to stay with me and call our family members.  It was the sickest I had ever been.”

She said she has been hospitalized ten times in the last six years.

“I never linked it to my dentist visit,” said Brown. “I never thought to ask to see how they keep their tools clean, who does that? It was when the news came out that I thought, that might be the missing piece to my puzzle, and my family doctor encouraged me to get tested.  Now I will be over questioning every doctor or dentist visit.  I was hospitalized so much I even missed my daughter’s first day of kindergarten because I was in the hospital with pancreatitis. How is he going to give me that day back?”

Boudreaux said Brown and her husband cannot afford to buy a house right now because her medical bills have put them somewhere between $50,000 and $60,000 in debt.

“When she came to me and told me what had been going on and showed me the paperwork of when she visited Dr. Harrington and when she started with all these problems, and the doctors could not figure out why her liver and pancreas weren’t functioning right, I knew what the cause was,” said Boudreaux.  “Jodie is the third person  whose lawsuit I am filing tomorrow (Wednesday) against  Dr. Harrington. There will be more.”

“This problem doesn’t just hurt his former patients, it hurts their families, their friends, their children’s futures,” said Brown.  “I will get my test results back next week from the Tulsa Health Department, and whatever they are, I am too young to be sick.  I want to be there for my 9-year-old daughter and watch my other two boys grow up and be there when they have children.”
